1) assault:

a violent attack (physical attack or verbal attack)

Example:

A Man died after being assaulted by mob over theft allegations in Uttar Pradesh District.

Tamil meaning:

assault = கடுமையான தாக்குதல், முரட்டுத்தனமான தாக்குதல்

உதாரணம்:

உத்தரபிரதேச மாவட்டத்தில் திருட்டு குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் தொடர்பாக கும்பலால் கடுமையாக தாக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு நபர் இறந்தார்.

2) martyr:

A person who is suffered a lot or killed because of his religious or political beliefs

Example:

The martyrs don’t die, they live forever.

Tamil meaning:

martyr = தியாகி, உயிர்த்தியாகி

உதாரணம்:

தியாகிகள் இறக்க மாட்டார்கள், அவர்கள் என்றென்றும் வாழ்கிறார்கள்.

3) disparity:

a difference or dissimilarity, especially in an unfair way

Example:

There are a social discord and a wealth disparity between those living in urban and rural areas.

Tamil meaning:

disparity = ஏற்றத்தாழ்வு, சமமின்மை, வித்தியாசம்

உதாரணம்:

நகர்ப்புற மற்றும் கிராமப்புறங்களில் வசிப்பவர்களுக்கு இடையே ஒரு சமூக முரண்பாடு மற்றும் செல்வ ஏற்றத்தாழ்வு உள்ளது.

4) loom:

likely to happen soon and cause worry, especially something bad or unpleasant

Example:

As the COVID-19 crisis continues to loom over us, The Government of India has taken a strict combat measure by directing a lockdown of the entire nation.

Tamil meaning:

loom over = அபாயகரமாய் விரைவில் வரப்போகிற

உதாரணம்:

கோவிட் - 19 நெருக்கடி அபாயகரமாய் நம்மைத் தொடர்ந்து வருவதால், ஒட்டுமொத்த தேசத்தில் ஊரடங்கை அமல்படுத்தி, இந்திய அரசு கடுமையான போர் நடவடிக்கையை எடுத்துள்ளது.

5) combat:

A fight during a war

Example:

As the COVID-19 crisis continues to loom over us, The Government of India has taken a strict combat measure by directing a lockdown of the entire nation.

Tamil meaning:

combat = போர்

combat measure = போர் நடவடிக்கை

உதாரணம்:

கோவிட் - 19 நெருக்கடி அபாயகரமாய் நம்மைத் தொடர்ந்து வருவதால், ஒட்டுமொத்த தேசத்தில் ஊரடங்கை அமல்படுத்தி, இந்திய அரசு கடுமையான போர் நடவடிக்கையை எடுத்துள்ளது.

6) candid:

Being honest and telling the truth, especially about something difficult to reveal

Example:

It was very important for the two defence ministers to have a face-to-face and candid exchange of views on relevant issues.

Tamil meaning:

candid = நேர்மையான, கபடற்ற

உதாரணம்:

இரு பாதுகாப்பு அமைச்சர்களுக்கும் நேருக்கு நேர் மற்றும் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட பிரச்சினைகள் குறித்து கருத்துக்களை நேர்மையாக பரிமாறிக்கொள்வது மிகவும் முக்கியமானது.

7) diplomacy:

The activity of managing relations between different countries and the skill in doing this.

Example:

Diplomacy is the solution to India-China tensions, says External Affairs Minister Jaishankar.

Tamil meaning:

diplomacy = இராஜதந்திரம், அரச செயல்திறம், இராஜசாதுரியம்

உதாரணம்:

இந்தியா-சீனா பதட்டங்களுக்கு இராஜதந்திரமே தீர்வு என்று வெளிவிவகார அமைச்சர் ஜெய்சங்கர் கூறுகிறார்.

8) echoing:

to repeat an idea or opinion which you agree or to repeat what someone else has said

Example:

Beijing blamed India for the latest tensions. Echoing that General Wei reiterated China’s stand in the talks.

Tamil meaning:

echoing = எதிரொலித்து, மற்றவர்கள் சொன்னதை அப்படியே திரும்ப சொல்வது

உதாரணம்:

பெய்ஜிங் இந்தியாவை சமீபத்திய பதட்டங்களுக்கு குற்றம் சாட்டியது. இதை எதிரொலித்து, ஜெனரல் வீ பேச்சுவார்த்தையில் சீனாவின் நிலைப்பாட்டை மீண்டும் வலியுறுத்தினார்.

9) escalation:

a situation in which something becomes greater or more serious or worse

Example:

Kentucky State University has seen an escalation in COVID-19 cases.

Tamil meaning:

escalation = விரிவாக்கம், அதிகரிப்பு

உதாரணம்:

கென்டக்கி மாநில பல்கலைக்கழகம் கோவிட் -19 பாதிப்புகளில் ஒரு அதிகரிப்பை கண்டுள்ளது.

10) The status quo:

The present situation or the current status

Example:

The Indian Army said, provocative military movements attempted to change the status quo in violation of the bilateral agreements.

Tamil meaning:

The status quo = தற்போதைய நிலைமை, நடைமுறையிலுள்ள நிலைமை

உதாரணம்:

இந்திய இராணுவம், ஆத்திரமூட்டும் இராணுவ இயக்கங்கள் இருதரப்பு ஒப்பந்தங்களை மீறி நடைமுறையிலுள்ள நிலைமையை மாற்ற முயற்சித்தாக கூறுகிறது.

11) consensus:

An opinion which is accepted among a group of people

Example:

The two sides should earnestly implement the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Modi.

Tamil meaning:

consensus = ஒருமித்த கருத்து

உதாரணம்:

ஜனாதிபதி ஜி ஜின்பிங் மற்றும் பிரதமர் மோடி ஆகியோரால் அடையப்பெற்ற முக்கியமான ஒருமித்த கருத்தை இரு தரப்பினரும் ஆர்வத்துடன் செயல்படுத்த வேண்டும்.

12) heat up:

To become more intense, angry or more active;

If a situation heats up, it becomes more extreme.

Example:

China increases military drills as tensions with US heat up.

Tamil meaning:

heat up = தீவிரமடைதல்

உதாரணம்:

அமெரிக்காவுடனான பதட்டங்கள் தீவிரமடைவதால் சீனா இராணுவ பயிற்சிகளை அதிகரிக்கிறது.

13) refrain:

To stop yourself from doing something or avoid something especially something you want to do

Example:

Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu has asked chairpersons and members of parliamentary standing committees to refrain from providing to the media confidential information related to panel meetings.

Tamil meaning:

refrain = தவிர், விலகியிரு,

உதாரணம்:

குழு கூட்டங்கள் தொடர்பான ரகசிய தகவல்களை ஊடகங்களுக்கு வழங்குவதைத் தவிர்க்குமாறு ராஜ்யசபா தலைவர் வெங்கையா நாயுடு தலைவர்கள் மற்றும் நாடாளுமன்ற நிலைக்குழு உறுப்பினர்களைக் கேட்டுக் கொண்டார்.

14) provocative:

Causing angry, excitement, interest or stimulation

Example:

The Indian Army said, provocative military movements attempted to change the status quo in violation of the bilateral agreements.

Tamil meaning:

provocative = ஆத்திரமூட்டும், எரிச்சலுாட்டும், ஆர்வத்தைத்துாண்டும்

உதாரணம்:

இந்திய இராணுவம், ஆத்திரமூட்டும் இராணுவ இயக்கங்கள் இருதரப்பு ஒப்பந்தங்களை மீறி நடைமுறையிலுள்ள நிலைமையை மாற்ற முயற்சித்தாக கூறுகிறது.

15) tranquility:

The state of being   peaceful, calm, quiet, without noise, violence, worry, etc

Example:

China cannot go back to normal unless peace and tranquility is restored along the common border.

Tamil meaning:

tranquility = அமைதி, சாந்தி

உதாரணம்:

பொதுவான எல்லையில் சமாதானமும் அமைதியும் மீட்கப்படாவிட்டால் சீனா இயல்பு நிலைக்கு திரும்ப முடியாது.

16) abduct:

to take somebody away illegally using force or threats

Example:

China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has reportedly abducted five people from Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Tamil meaning:

abduct = ஆட்கடத்தல்

உதாரணம்:

சீன மக்களின் விடுதலை இராணுவம் (பி.எல்.ஏ) அருணாச்சல பிரதேசத்தின் மேல் சுபன்சிரி மாவட்டத்தில் இருந்து ஐந்து பேரை கடத்தியதாக கூறப்படுகிறது.

17) lodge a complaint:

To make an official complaint

Example:

Officials in the district said no one has lodged any formal complaint with the police or the armed forces.

Tamil meaning:

lodge a complaint = புகாரளி

உதாரணம்:

காவல்துறையினரிடமோ அல்லது ஆயுதப்படைகளிடமோ யாரும் முறையான புகார் அளிக்கவில்லை என்று மாவட்டத்திலுள்ள அதிகாரிகள் தெரிவித்தனர்.

18) befit:

To be suitable or proper for somebody or something

Example:

We strongly urge our Army for giving a befitting reply to any misadventures from across the border.

Tamil meaning:

befit = பொருத்தமான

உதாரணம்:

எல்லையைத் தாண்டி ஏதேனும் தவறான செயல்களுக்கு பொருத்தமான பதிலை அளிக்குமாறு எங்கள் இராணுவத்தை நாங்கள் வற்புறுத்துகிறோம்.

19) urge:

To advise or try hard to persuade somebody to do something, especially difficult or impossible

Example:

We strongly urge our Army for giving a befitting reply to any misadventures from across the border.

Tamil meaning:

urge = வற்புறுத்து, தூண்டு

உதாரணம்:

எல்லையைத் தாண்டி ஏதேனும் தவறான செயல்களுக்கு பொருத்தமான பதிலை அளிக்குமாறு எங்கள் இராணுவத்தை நாங்கள் வற்புறுத்துகிறோம்

20) plaintiff:

someone who makes a legal complaint against someone else in court

Example:

The relatives of the plaintiff are alleged to have been killed.

Tamil meaning:

plaintiff = வாதி, முறையீட்டாளர், புகாரளிப்பவர், வழக்கு தொடுத்தவர்

உதாரணம்:

வழக்கு தொடுத்தவரின் உறவினர்கள் கொல்லப்பட்டதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது.
